Ultra Robotic™

I’m going to try to recreate my website from scratch. The design (which I called Ultra Robotic™, due to the grey-on-grey colour scheme) was always a bit divisive, even back then, but I always liked it. And for nostalgia’s sake, I want it back, just how it was, or as close as I can manage it.

Of course, this means I’m gonna have to relearn HTML and CSS, and how to make WordPress themes, which I believe required some knowledge of PHP coding. I learned it all before, somehow, so I should be able to do it again.

To Boldly Split

“There is a pedant on your staff who spends far too much of his time searching for split infinitives. Every good literary craftsman uses a split infinitive if he thinks the sense demands it. I call for this man’s instant dismissal; it matters not whether he decides to quickly go or to go quickly or quickly to go. Go he must, and at once.”

-George Bernard Shaw

Time Capsule

I’ve been reading through all 24 years (!!) of Jason Kottke’s archives. His was the first weblog I ever read, and probably one of the first weblogs, period. I don’t know what it is I enjoy about his content — it’s mostly tech and design stuff that doesn’t usually interest me — but there’s something comforting about it.

I’ve read up to about halfway through the year 2000 now. It’s a nostalgia overload. He talks about the upcoming Simpsons movie, and how Napster will never die.

Back From the Dead

I decided to try this blogging thing again. A little history: I started this blog (or a version of it) back in the early 2000s. It actually became quite popular (it was the height of Blogosphere mania back then). But over the years it slowly died, my domain lapsed, and an era came to an end.

But fast forward 20 years, and here we are. Consequences will never be the same.
